Chalybeate Springs by Andy LushNEW OWNER AT CHALYBEATE SPRINGS This beautiful 2 acre lake is set in parkland on the Eridge Estate just south of Tunbridge Wells and the new owner Michael Evans aims to provide top quality fly fishing in peaceful surroundings.
My brief visit on opening day proved very successful with several fish to 4lb falling to my ever faithful Damsel nymph fished on a floating line and 15' leader. The fish I caught were all full finned plump Rainbows, although Browns have been stocked to supplement the natural Browns.
One major change is the need to pre-book before visiting the water, all bookings are taken in advance via the fishery web site www.chalybeatesprings.co.uk, there is a limit of 12 rods per day although usually there will be fewer.
Review from their website:
“Chalybeate Springs is a magical trout lake of just over 2 acres hidden away in the Weald of Kent just 3 miles south of Tunbridge Wells off the A26.
Off the beaten track, on the privately owned Eridge estate and amidst countryside that has been unaffected by time, you will find trout fishing like it used to be.
Well stocked water with both rainbow and brown trout - some the original wild fish that still breed in the stream - rising gently to the abundant natural fly life or cruising through reed lined margins stalking an underwater meal.
Bring some steaks or cook your catch on our purpose built bar-b-q or chill out in our fully refurbished comfortable fishing hut with free tea and coffee.”
