Nymph - Bead Head

The Brassie series are a very basic nymph which utilise the shape of the buzzer style hook in addition to a weighted bead and wire weighted body to reach the areas where the fish congregate at the bed of the river. Their simplicity belies their superb ability to take fish in many differing conditions. They can be fished in a variety of colours of styles to suit the time of year, flow rate and species hatching. The smaller sizes are often fished beneath a "sighter" fly, which is a dry fly used to carry the nymph beneath it.

The original (and some say still the best) of the cased caddis imitators. Carrying a weighted bead which forces the pattern to fish hook-up, this fly has a great heritage and reputation for catching difficult fish in a host of changing conditions.

Another imitation which has withstood the ravages of time. Its bright antron tail reacts very well in coloured water, a great advantage over more subtly coloured imitations. Was once fished as an over-large attractor pattern for Rainbow Trout with great success, but is usually now only fished in smaller sizes on running water.

The GRHE has undergone probably more face-lifts than any other pattern in history. This is a great "bugging" type fly which is dressed on a Jig Hook. The idea for the Jig hook is added weight and an ability to swim hook side-up, so snags are lessened and your flies get to drift for longer in the fish holding zone.

This is Andrew Ryan’s variant on the GRHE theme. He claims great success with this pattern in clear water. It can have a smaller non-weighted tied very close to the rear of the heavier "Twinkle" version, which is sometimes taken with significant preference.
