The Bibio, originally based on a heather fly imitation for the great Loughs, has proven its worth down through the years as a first choice fly in upland areas surrounded by heather and gorse. Who would have thought that with the simple addition of a set of knotted legs that the pattern would completely reinvent itself and prove to be a killing pattern over a much wider range of species and fishing situations. Extremely good in small sizes for Sea Trout in the Loughs, the more standard size will appeal to both Brown and Rainbow trout, whether fished in traditional short-lined lough style or fished static as a dry fly.

This pattern is basically a "legged" version of a Claret Bumble. It has some great fans on the big Loughs in Ireland for fishers of both Brown and Sea Trout. Of recent years, claret has gained much popularity for Rainbow Trout and this pattern is no different, even taking Salmon on occasions.

A bumble version of a Green Peter with legs added would probably sum this pattern up best. It is a great all round fly that can be fished right through the season for all of our Salmonoid.
